Standard Operating Procedure
Task Assignment SOP
Assign work so nothing is ambiguous, unowned, or dropped.
When to use
Whenever new work is created or reassigned.
Procedure
- 1. Write a clear, outcome-focused task description.
- 2. Set the department(s) the work belongs to.
- 3. Assign one accountable owner (add collaborators if needed).
- 4. Set priority and a realistic ETA.
- 5. Flag “requires QA” if the work needs review before completion.
- 6. Confirm the assignee has the context and access they need.
- 7. Track status in the grid or board through to completion.
Do / Don’t
- Do give every task a single accountable owner
- Do set an ETA so performance can be measured
- Don’t assign to “the team” with no owner
- Don’t leave priority blank for time-sensitive work
